The Milk supply Schemes were being run by Animal Husbandry Department of Himachal Pradesh since 1967 and the Department had been providing market to the Milk Producers’ residing in remote and far-flung area of the State. H.P. MilkFed was registered in 1980. But it started its operation w.e.f. 2nd October, 1983 with the transfer of Dairy Development Activities to it by the Govt. in the district of Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Sirmour, Solan and part of Shimla Districts. Una district was subsequently transferred to the Federation w.e.f. 1st May, 1988. Functional activities of milk collection and sale were taken over in this district w.e.f. 1.9.1988 from 1.7.1992 milk supply scheme of the remaining parts of H.P. were also transferred to this Milk Federation. The main objectives of the organization are to organise Milk Producers Cooperative Societies and to provide a remunerative market to the Milk Producers’ for their surplus milk at their door steps and to ensure availability of milk and milk products in adequate quantity and reasonable prices to the Urban milk consumers.
